Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak (Mich.) announced that it has implemented Ortech, a web-based, software program that physicians use in the operating room.
Ortech allows the surgeon to input data about the patient, the procedure and even the implants used during surgery. Orthopedic research teams can then use the data to improve surgical processes. The program will also help with quality control, CMS reporting and reimbursements because it helps track outcomes.
Another objective of the program is to allow surgeons and research teams to interface with the American Joint Replacement Registry, which is a national database on total hip and knee replacement surgeries.
Initially, Ortech will only be used in the operating room for joint replacement and spine procedures. But the hospital hopes to extend the program into physician offices as well. Eventually, subspecialties such as sports medicine, trauma and pediatrics, will also utilize the program.
