Medical Personnel Mobile Devices Vulnerable to Security ThreatsWritten by Bob Herman | June 24, 2011
External security and network virus threats to hospital staff and physician mobile devices are a growing concern, according to an InformationWeek report.
The report noted how there has been an increase in viruses in devices that feature Windows, Linux and Apple operating systems, and hospital staff and physicians need to monitor their mobile devices carefully in order to abide by HIPAA regulations and to protect patient information.
Taking an inventory of all networked medical devices and conduct risk assessments for devices that carry protected health information are prudent steps to ensure safety against viruses and security breaches, the report said.
