Small Physician Practices Slow to Adopt EHRs

Roughly 81,000 physicians in hospitals, clinics and private offices have registered for help to apply for electronic health record bonuses, but only 31,000 work in small group practices, according to an ONC figure in an iWatch News investigative report.


The report, which interviewed Cleveland-area physicians, said some smaller physician practices are leery of the EHR trend, as the small staffs must be able to learn and operate the systems, be aware of upgrade costs and stomach the high upfront costs of EHR systems.
