Mercy Gilbert (Ariz.) Medical Center has recruited a specialist in brain and spinal surgery, allowing the 92-bed hospital to offer those services for the first time, according to a release from Mercy Gilbert.

Arturo Camacho, MD, will be the only board-certified neurosurgeon in the Southeast Valley of Arizona specializing in spinal, intracranial and peripheral nerve surgery.

Dr. Camacho earned his MD degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed his neurosurgery residency at Mayo Clinic.

The hospital, which is part of Catholic Healthcare West, expects to perform about 40 neuroscience procedures a month.
