Global medical device company Smith & Nephew named Michael Friedman, MD, as a non-executive director to join the board April 11. Dr. Friedman has been the CEO of City of Hope, a California-based cancer research and treatment institution, for 10 years. He formerly served as the senior vice president of research and development, medical and public policy for Pharmacia Corp. and a deputy commissioner and acting commissioner at the FDA.
