Minneapolis-based Medtronic announced it will cut approximately 500 jobs at its Minnesota facilities and 2,000 jobs worldwide, according to a TwinCities.com report. About half of the cuts will be to the U.S. workforce, and about two thirds of the layoffs have already taken place, according to the report. The downsizing is in attempt to "align people to where growth opportunities are," said Omar Ishrak, Medtronic chief executive officer.
