Lanx Publishes Favorable Study for ASPEN Minimally Invasive Spinal Fusion Device

Broomfield, Colo.-based Lanx published research supporting its ASPEN MIS Fusion System for decreasing subsequent disc reherniation when used in conjunction with a lumbar discectomy. The retrospective study is titled "Recurrent Lumbar Disc Herniation Treated with Interspinous Fusion and Instrumentation: A Case Series." Jeffrey Oppenheim, MD, chief of the section of neurosurgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y., authored the study.

Recurrent lumbar disc herniation occurs frequently after disc herniation. The case study looked at four patients treated with repeat micro lumbar discectomy with ASPEN device fixation. At a 21-month follow-up, patients demonstrated functional improvement with no clinical evidence of complications or reherniation.
