NuVasive reaches definitive settlement with US: 5 points

Spinal Tech

NuVasive, a medical device company for spine surgery, confirmed it reached a settlement with the United States' Department of Justice in regards to the subpoena issued to the company by the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services in 2013.

Here are five points:

1. NuVasive will pay $13.5 million, plus fees and accrued interest.

2. The company said it understands the government's responsibility to ensure the appropriateness of industry practices.

3. NuVasive cooperated with the government and plans to sustain a compliant relationship.

4. This settlement allows NuVasive to avoid spending time and money on a litigation process, but does not imply an admission of liability by the company. NuVasive admits no wrongdoing.

5. The settlement did not require NuVasive to enter into a corporate integrity agreement by the OIG.
