MicroPort Orthopedics, an Arlington, Tenn.-based orthopedic products producer, designed the Profemur Preserve Hip Stem, a short stem for bone and tissue preserving surgical techniques.

Here are five things to know:

1. More physicians want short stems with the rising popularity of tissue-friendly techniques for the treatment of a younger patient population.

2. Preserving bone, shorter stems allow physicians to do future revisions with a wider range of treatment choices.

3. Preserve Classic maximizes head center coverage with the fewest SKUs, resulting in a no technique learning curve.

4. MicroPort Orthopedics focuses on managing OR flow and consistently.

5. Phillip Merritt, MD, a direct anterior approach specialist in Glendale, Calif., performed the first two hip replacements with Profemur Preserve.

"As physicians evaluate the landscape of short stems, Profemur Preserve is attractively positioned to capture the market share," said Patrick Gregory, hip product manager for MicroPort Orthopedics.
