Life Spine, a medical device company for spinal disorders, received its 100th patent.
Here are five key notes:
1. U.S. patent number 9,138,328 is the company's 100th patent.
2. The 100th patent regards Life Spine's LONGBOW Expandable Lateral Interbody System.
3. This system is the first interbody that expands laterally in-situ.
4. With the systems, surgeons can reduce retraction by as much as 45 percent.
5. By reducing retraction, surgeons can decrease the incision size and limit possible nerve damage.
"Perhaps even more important than this particular patent's issuance is that we have more than 140 additional pending patent applications," said Rich Mueller, COO, Life Spine. "Many of these technologies will enable potentially faster recovery times and decreased postoperative pain for spine surgery patients."
