NuVasive has selected a site in West Carrollton, Ohio as the location for the build-out of its new medical device facility.
Here are five key points:
1. The new facility will be dedicated to spinal implant and instrument manufacturing and would support the company's efforts to increase its internal manufacturing capabilities alongside its existing manufacturing facility in Dayton, Ohio, as well as enhance its focus on operational excellence.
2. NuVasive plans to invest $45 million over the next 24 months to build-out and equip the new facility, and is scheduled to begin commercial scale production by year-end 2016.
3. At full scale, the new facility is expected to employ approximately 300 full-time, high-tech positions, including engineers and skilled machinists, as well as process development and validation specialists who will work with the company's research and development teams to optimize and accelerate product launches. It will also house approximately 100 computer numerical control machine tools and CMM inspection equipment, as well as clean-room operations.
4. NuVasive CEO and Chairman, Gregory T. Lucier, said the site silection and subsequent build-out is a major step in their efforts to enhance their manufacturing presence in the United States to support the self-manufacture of nearly 100 percent of select spinal products and instruments. He also stated that NuVasive expects to increase customer responsiveness, dramatically improve inventory turns and speed up design time velocity to more efficiently meet the growing demand for their innovative spine technology.
5. NuVasive is an innovative global medical device company that is transforming spine surgery with minimally disruptive surgical products and procedurally-integrated solutions for the spine. It is the third highest player in the $9 billion global spine market.
