Technavio's new report shows that DePuy Synthes, Medtronic, NuVasive and Stryker are the top four leading vendors in the U.S. lateral lumbar interbody fusion market.
Here are five observations:
1. The report, "Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion Market in the US 2016-2020," also lists 19 other prominent vendors that are expected to impact the market, such as Alphatec Spine and Smith & Nephew.
2. The report includes information on the top four vendors:
• DePuy Synthes' latest product offering in the market includes the COUGAR LS lateral cage system and PIPELINE LS lateral access system.
• Medtronic generated 37 percent of its revenue from the sales of products introduced in the past three years, and it also offers a broad portfolio of internal spine stabilization devices, biomaterials and instruments.
• NuVasive has 230 patents in the United States, 165 foreign national patents and 284 pending patent applications. It invested around 5 percent of its total revenue on research and development in fiscal year 2014.
• Stryker's spine, orthopedics and neurotechnology segments grew by 6 percent in terms of constant currency in FY2014.
3. The LLIF market in the United States includes large, well-established vendors as well as new and emerging companies.
4. The leading vendors are continuously losing their market share to smaller players.
5. Thus, vendors are increasingly investing in research and focusing on product launches and regulatory approvals.
