Larry S. Bankston, MD, and Robert W. Easton, MD, both with Baton Rouge (La.) Orthopaedic Clinic, performed the first meniscus replacement procedure in the South using Memphis, Tenn.-based Active Implants' NUsurface Meniscus Implant.
Here are five observations:
1. Europe and Israel CE-marked the NUsurface Meniscus Implant in 2008 and 2011, respectively.
2. A clinical trial examining NUsurface Meniscus Implant's safety is currently underway.
3. Dr. Bankston earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his residency at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. He underwent his shoulder and elbow fellowship at OrthoCarolina Sports Medicine in Charlotte, N.C.
4. Dr. Easton earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He underwent his adult reconstruction surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.
