The first cases using Smith & Nephew's NAVIO Surgical System to implant the JOURNEY II BCS and CR total knee systems have been completed.
Here are four key points:
1. Brian McGinley, MD, of John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, N.Y., performed the robotics-assisted total knee replacement procedure.
2. The FDA recently approved this procedure that uses robotics for TKR.
3. The NAVIO system is designed to help deliver consistent outcomes through the use of a robotics-assisted hand piece, navigation and NAVIO specific cut guides.
4. Currently available for the JOURNEY II total knee systems, the NAVIO system is also expected to support additional total knee systems.
