SpineGuard to launch PediGuard Threaded for spinal surgery: 5 things to know

Spinal Tech

SpineGuard plans to launch the next-generation PediGuard "Threaded" device next week.

Here are five things to know about the technology:

1. The Dynamic Surgical Guidance technology enables the PediGuard "Threaded" device, which is a drilling instrument with a threaded shaft design in various sizes. It can be used to streamline surgical steps while maintaining accuracy in pedicle screw placement preparation.

2. The device can help reduce the use of intraoperative imaging in standard minimally invasive spine surgery.

3. Surgeons have used SpineGuard in 50,000 spine procedures for accurate pedicle screw placement. The product line includes PediGuard Straight, PediGuard Curved and PediGuard Cannulated.

4. The device will be launched at the North American Spine Society annual meeting

5. The company reported 15 percent revenue growth for the nine months end in 2016.

"Because we can be confident in our guided placement, we have been able to reduce the amount of fluoroscopy used during minimally invasive procedures," said Larry T. Khoo, MD, of The Spine Clinic of Los Angeles. "I estimate that, at our spine center, we have reduced the number of fluoroscopy images by about 50 percent. My practice is 90 to 100 percent minimally invasive, so I routinely use PediGuard Threaded device in the vast majority of my cases. I use it in everything from routine lumbar to thoracic screw cannulation."
