Members of the medical device industry hope Congress repeals the device tax before it's reinstated in 2018.
Here is what four medical device industry leaders said about the state of the device tax repeal:
Indiana Medical Device Manufacturers Executive Director Kathy Heuer said, "Every dime that we pay over and above what we already do in taxes towards this medical device excise tax is another dollar taken away from either research and development or hiring new employees, expansion of plants," as per Indiana Public Media.
Tyber Medical CEO and Founder Jeff Tyber said, "I can tell you that the tax for us as a small business has caused us to slow down on a hire or two… It really comes down to the margins…That tax really impacts the gross profit margin," according to Lehigh Valley Business.
Life Sciences Pennsylvania President and CEO Christopher Molineaux said, "Life Sciences Pennsylvania has been a strong advocate for the repeal of the medical device tax and has worked closely with its national affiliates to advocate for its repeal, garnering strong support from the Pennsylvania delegation," according to Lehigh Valley Business.
Olympus Corp. of the Americas' Medical Systems Group President Todd Usen said, "With suspension of the onerous U.S. medical device tax, Olympus has been able to invest the majority of roughly 10 percent of its annual global budget on research and development focused on pioneering technologies for the identification and minimally invasive treatment of disease," according to Lehigh Valley Business.
