Spinal Tech

Globus Medical acquired KB Medical, a robotic developer based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The acquisition closed in the second quarter of 2017. The company reported a 10.8 percent increase in worldwide sales for the quarter, hitting $152.4 million. The KB Medical acquisition slightly bolstered Globus's development team, intellectual property and product portfolio.

"The addition of KB Medical will enable Globus Medical to accelerate, enhance and expand our product portfolio in imaging, navigation and robotics," said President of Emerging Technologies Dave Demski. "KB Medical's experienced team of technology development professionals, its strong IP portfolio and shared philosophy for robotic solutions in medicine strengthens Globus Medical's position in this strategic area."

KB Medical's AQrate robotic system is used during lumbar fusion procedures to plan operations and guide instrument positioning for pedicle screw placement during the minimally invasive approach, according to MedGadget. The company received a CE Mark for the AQrate system last year after completing a clinical trial treating more than 20 patients.
