NuVasive plans to expand its San Diego-based headquarters and add an innovation center to the facility.
Here are five things to know:
1. Founded in 1997, NuVasive has grown considerably over the past two decades and expects annual revenues to surpass $1 billion in 2017. The company foresees continued growth and plans to renovate and expand its world headquarters in January 2018.
2. The company currently trains more than 500 surgeons per year at the San Diego campus and plans to increase research and development spending from 5 percent to 7 percent of revenue over the next several years.
3. The renovation will add more than 100,000 square feet to NuVasive's headquarters, boosting the total square footage to 250,000. The new facility will include an innovation center to showcase the company's products and highlight its surgeon education program.
4. The new facility will add a prototype design facility with three-dimensional printing capabilities. NuVasive also plans to add a biomedical testing center.
5. Once completed, the new facility will also have a café, fitness center and meeting space for up to 750 people.
"San Diego's business community applauds the expansion of the NuVasive campus," said Jerry Sanders, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce's president and CEO. "NuVasive is a major contributor to San Diego's vital medical technology industry and has demonstrated admirable commitment not only to supporting our region but to totally revolutionizing spine surgery across the world."
