Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls recently earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for four orthopedic procedures.
Sanford earned the Gold Seal of Approval for its hip fracture program as well as its knee replacement, hip replacement and shoulder replacements. Sanford USD Medical Center is the only healthcare program in the country to receive all four certifications from The Joint commissions.

Sanford Health underwent on-site surveys for each of the four programs and demonstrated compliance with Joint Commission's standards.

"Achieving Joint Commission certification in hip fracture, hip replacement, knee replacement and shoulder replacement is extremely challenging," said Charles P. O'Brien, MD, president of Sanford USD Medical Center. "The certifications serve to validate our commitment to ongoing quality and our focus on continuing to raise the bar. This is not just a one-time event, but rather how we provide care to our orthopedic patients on a day-to-day basis."
