The American Orthopaedic Association is celebrating its 125-year anniversary, according to an AAOS Now report.
The organization began in 1887 with just 14 original physician members. Since then, the organization has grown to include 1,550 members and is currently led by AOA President Douglas R. Dirschl, MD.

AOA paved the way for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and established the first traveling fellowships in 1948.
