CMS Clarifies Medical Necessity for Joint Replacements Featured

CMS has released an education guide to improve physicians' compliance with documentation requirements for major joint replacement surgery.
Although this guide does not guarantee payment, it includes suggestions for documenting medical necessity to avoid denial of Medicare fee-for-service claims. It also includes examples of documentation that may result in a denied claim.
