Half of orthopedic surgeons received $350,000 or more last year, and the highest compensated surgeons could be found in small cities across the United States, according to the Medscape Physician Compensation Report 2011.
Approximate orthopedic surgeon compensation brackets:
$100,000 or less: 10 percent
$100,001-$199,999: 10 percent
$200,000-$349,000: 30 percent
$350,000-$499,999: 30 percent
$500,000 or more: 20 percent
Compensation based on practice setting:
Small city: $450,000
Small town or rural area: $400,000
Midsized city: $350,000
Major metropolitan area: $325,000
Suburbs: $300,000
