Orthopedic

The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York has been ranked the top hospital in the United States for orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report in its 2015 "Best Hospitals" survey.

Here are five things to know:

1. This is the sixth consecutive year that U.S. News & World Report ranked HSS as number one for orthopedics.

2. HSS also ranked third alongside the New York-Presbyterian Hospital in rheumatology.

3. In 2014, HSS cared for more than 120,000 patients, needing anything from joint replacement to spine surgery to pediatric orthopedics, among other surgical and nonsurgical services.

4. The hospital recently expanded with outpatient centers in Stamford, Conn., and Paramus, N.J., and an online second opinion service, HSS eConsult.

5. HSS is a big player in sports medicine, providing care for teams like the New York Knicks and New York Giants.

"This accolade is a testament to the work of all HSS staff who help patients get back to their own game of life every day," said Todd J. Albert, MD, HSS surgeon-in-chief and medical director.
