The Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society named Samir Mehta, MD, president for 2015 to 2016.
Here are five key notes on Dr. Mehta:
1. He is the chief of the orthopedic trauma division at the University of Pennsylvaniva Perelman School of Medicine.
2. Throughout his career, Dr. Mehta has been activley involved with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association and the Orthoapedic Trauma Association.
3. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Mehta participated in more than 90 peer reviewed publications and been awarded grants including from the Department of Defense and National Institutes of Health.
4. Dr. Mehta completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Perelman School of Medcine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was also a research fellow. He completed a trauma fellowship at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and continued training at the University of Saarland in Homburg, Germany.
5. He was awarded the prestigious AOA-North American Traveling Fellowship and served as an AAOS Health Policy Fellow on Capitol Hill.
"Probably one of the greatest challenges of organizations today is membership recruitment and retention," said Dr. Mehta. "While many organizations have seen members numbers drop, POS has maintained a consistent member base. POS will continue to educate and familiarize young orthopedists as well as advanced practice providers with clinical, socio-economic and legislative issues facing the orthopedic community. During my tenure, POS intends to hold several strategic networking sessions in an effort to grow as a state association."
