Here are 15 orthopedic surgeons making the news this week.

The Georgia Orthopaedic Society elected D. Kay Kirkpatrick, MD, as president. Dr. Kirkpatrick is co-president of Resurgens Orthopaedics and has served as president-elect of the society and a council member-at-large for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

 

Pasquale Petrera, MD, is bringing knee replacement surgery technology, the ExatechGPS Guided Personalized Surgery, to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del. The technology enables surgeons to decide where to move bone and place the knee implant in the optimal position.

 

The International Association of Health Care Professionals welcomed Tamara K. Pylawka, MD, to its physician staff. Dr. Pylawka is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America and International Cartilage Repair Society.

 

Foot and ankle surgeons Simon Lee, MD, and Johnny L. Lin, MD, hosted a charity event for the homeless in Chicago. The event, "Soles 4 Souls," provided shoes, socks and medical care to homeless men and women.

 

Wayne H. Scheidemann, MD, joined O'Neill, Neb.-based Avera St. Anthony's Hospital. Dr. Scheidemann previously served as a U.S. Army surgeon.

 

Castle Connolly named Hooman M. Melamed, MD, as a Top Doctor. Dr. Melamed practices in Beverly Hills, Calif., and specializes in spinal disorders.

 

Josh Blomberg, MD, joined Appleton, Wis.-based ThedaCare. Dr. Blomberg underwent his orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of Miami.

 

Tulsa-based Eastern Oklahoma Orthopedic Center surgeons Rodney Plaster, MD, and Sarat Kunapuli, MD, traveled to El Salvador to perform knee and hip replacements.

 

Indiana Regional Medical Center recognized orthopedic surgeons Craig C. McKirgan, DO, and David T. Bizousky, MD, for their services.

 

Orthopedic Associates added Robert R. Bell, MD. Dr. Bell is a hand and upper extremity surgeon.

 

Dominic J. Peters, MD, at Salem (Ohio) Regional Medical Center is offering an advanced anterior replacement surgery to patients. Dr. Peters underwent his fellowship at the Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, Calif.

 

The American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine honored William Oppenheim, MD, of Orthopaedic Institute for Children in Los Angles, with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the AACPDM 70th annual meeting in Austin, Texas.
