Eric M. Berkson, MD, is director of the Sports Performance Center and is a member of the Sports Medicine Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is also an instructor of orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He has worked as a team physician for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Dr. Berkson's clinical interests include shoulder, knee and elbow injuries, sports injuries, ACL injuries, rotator cuff repair, cartilage restoration/cartilage repair, complex knee reconstruction and advanced arthroscopic surgery. He researches clinical outcomes as well as shoulder elbow and knee biomechanics with an emphasis on pitching injuries and recovery. The MGH Sports Performance Center aims to critically and scientifically analyze athletic activities and to maximize recovery from injury as well as prevent injuries.
Dr. Berkson was recently the recipient of the Nicols Foundation Young Researcher Award by the International Society of Arthroscopy. He has also been identified as an Emerging Leader by the American Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Berkson earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed an orthopedic residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He also completed a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston.
