Mount Sinai Beth Israel hospital in New York City was recently awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement.
Here's what you need to know:
1. The Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement recognizes healthcare organizations that provide high-quality safety and care and that comply with The Joint Commission's national standards.
2. To earn this designation, the hospital's department of orthopaedic surgery went through a four-day on-site review from The Joint Commission. The survey evaluated patient education prior to the procedure and patient function in the weeks following the procedure, among other criteria.
3. Fewer than 10 orthopedic programs throughout the United States have been awarded this certification.
4. Mount Sinai Beth Israel is the only hospital in New York City with this certification.
5. The Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement, which was established at the start of 2016, lasts for two years.
