American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery names Dr. April Armstrong director-elect: 5 things to know

The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery named April Armstrong, MD, director-elect, according to Penn Live report.

Here are five key notes:

 

1. The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery includes 21 members. Dr. Armstrong, professor of orthopedics and rehabilitation at Penn State Bone and Joint, will be director-elect.

 

2. Dr. Armstrong has a special interest in shoulder and elbow surgery. She has provided care at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center since 2003.

 

3. Dr. Armstrong is currently the vice chair of clinical affairs and quality for the department of orthopedics at Hershey Medical Center and associate designated institutional officer for the Graduate Medical Education Office, according to the report.

 

4. She completed her fellowship in orthopedic hand and upper extremity care at the University of Western Ontario in Canada and a second fellowship in orthopedic surgery, shoulder and elbow care at Washington University-Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

 

5. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Armstrong focuses on research and is a member of the Zimmer Shoulder Design Team.
