Julio Petilon, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Spine Center Atlanta, where he specializes in treating herniated discs, degenerative disease of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, deformity, revision surgery and disease of the sacroiliac joint.
Dr. Petilon has authored several published works in peer-reviewed spine and orthopedic journals and has presented at national and international spine meetings. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons and North American Spine Society. He was a flight surgeon for the U.S. Navy, department head of orthopedics at the Naval Hospital in Sinonella, Sicilly (Italy), and has served as professor of surgery at the Bethesda, Md.-based Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.
After graduating from Boston-based Tufts University School of Medicine, he interned and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (Va.) before undergoing his combined orthopedic and neurosurgical spine fellowship at Louisville-based Norton Leatherman Spine Center.
