Middletown, N.Y.-based Orange Regional Medical Center Medical Education Director Ron Israelski, MD, founded Orthopaedic Relief Services International to offer care to those who need it most, according to Hudson Valley New Network.
Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Israelski founded O.R.S.I. after a 2010 earthquake killed 250,000 Haitians.
2. He has transported equipment and medicine over the course of 25 trips to Haiti.
3. O.R.S.I. strives to install and maintain modern and effective clinical capabilities and educate local physicians on high-quality medical practices.
4. The organization receives financial support from New York University and O.R.M.C.
5. Dr. Israelski said, "You need the environment to do surgery and to teach, so I’ve sent well over $1 million dollars of equipment over the past almost seven years."
