Treating carpal tunnel syndrome: open vs. endoscopic surgery

Orthopedic

Carpal tunnel syndrome can be treated with different methods, including open surgery and endoscopic surgery, according to Aiken Standard.

Here's what you need to know.

1. Endoscopic surgery results in a smaller scar and typically allows patients to resume regular activities quicker.

2. An endoscopic carpal tunnel release system is a minimally invasive device that allows surgeons to insert a camera through a single incision in the wrist, allowing surgeons to see inside the carpal tunnel to the ligament.

3. In open surgery, surgeons create an incision from the wrist towards the palm's center in order to cut the ligament.
