Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. T. Sean Lynch of Columbia Orthopedics

Orthopedic

T. Sean Lynch, MD, is an orthopedic and sports medicine surgeon at New York City-based Columbia Orthopedics. Dr. Lynch specializes in non-operative and operative hip and knee disorder treatment for athletes.

Recently, Dr. Lynch published a study in the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons on athletic hip injuries, outlining different treatment plans for team physicians to follow when athletes face these injuries. Injuries include adductor strains, osteitis pubis, sports hernias, as well as femoracetabluar

impingement and labral tears.

To treat these injuries, Dr. Lynch recommends core strengthening and stabilization during rehabilitation and the use of diagnostic injections to differentiate whether an athlete's pain is inside or outside of the hip joint. Surgery is recommended only after an athlete has failed to respond to non-operative care.

Dr. Lynch is a founding member of the Multicenter Orthopaedic Outcomes Network Hip group, a multi-center, multi-surgeon consortium of arthroscopic hip surgeons that prospectively follows hip injuries of patients across the country to evaluate patients' short term and long term recovery.

Dr. Lynch is also the associate residency and associate sports medicine fellowship director at Columbia Orthopedics. He serves as head team physician for Fordham University athletics in Bronx, N.Y.

After earning his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C., Dr. Lynch completed his internship and residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. Dr. Lynch is also fellowship trained in sports medicine from the Cleveland Clinic.
