Orthopedic

Adam Freedhand, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center and University of Texas Health Science Center, both is Houston, is using the Mako system for total knee replacements.

Here are three takeaways:

1. Dr. Freedhand began using the Mako system for partial knee replacements in 2008 and for hip replacements in 2010. He is one of the few surgeons in Houston to now use the system for total knee replacements.

2. To date, Dr. Freedhand has performed more than 100 total knee replacement surgeries with the Mako system and has noticed patients achieving milestones quicker than traditional surgery.

3. Dr. Freedhand noted the Mako system gave patients better range of motion and sometimes less physical therapy after surgery.
