Thirty pain and education experts from around the country have gathered at UC Davis Health System for a two-day summit to develop competencies in pain management education.
The summit was part of the Interprofessional Pain Management Competency Program, a project to develop pain management core competencies and drive curriculum reform. Scott M. Fishman, MD, chief of pain medicine and vice chair of the department of anesthesiology at UC Davis, leads the program.

Summit attendees agreed upon core competencies covering the multidimensional nature of pain, assessment and measurement, management of pain and clinical conditions. The group plans to summarize summit results in a journal article and release a full report within six months.
