An overview of multiple studies on pain relief finds that ultrasound-guided nerve block procedures do not significantly relieve pain, according to an Anesthesia & Analgesia report.

Although half of the studies found less pain with ultrasound-guided nerve block, the pain reductions were generally small.

Ultrasound has been used to guide the performance of nerve blocks in which anesthetics are directly targeted at a specific nerve or group of nerves.
