Jeffrey R. McConnell, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Allentown-based OAA Orthopaedic Specialists' Pennsylvania Spine and Scoliosis Institute. He previously served as co-director of the division of spine surgery at Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va. He is affiliated with the North American Spine Society, European Spine Society and International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine.
Dr. McConnell was a lead investigator for the SECURE-C Cervical Disc Replacement FDA IDE clinical trial. He utilizes the SECURE-C and ProDisc-C technologies for total disc replacement. He is board-certified and focuses on cervical spine disorders, degenerative disc disease, degenerative spinal conditions, herniated discs, lumbar spine disorders, spinal trauma and spine tumors.
Dr. McConnell is actively involved in charitable work, and he is a co-director of "Operation Straight Spine," a mission project which provides spinal disease and deformity treatment for poor and under-served people in India. He also established the Spine Education and Research Foundation to help fund the project. Additionally, he is a member of the American Institute of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, an institute which provides healthcare beyond borders in Cyprus.
Dr. McConnell earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed an orthopedic residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. He has also completed spine surgery fellowships at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore and the Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, United Kingdom.
