Dr. Johnson is on the board of trustees for the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and is a clinical instructor in the department of orthopedic surgery at the MUSC. He has also been a visiting instructor in neurosurgery departments at universities in Spain, France and England.
Additionally, he is on the editorial board for the Spine Section Journal of the Southern Orthopedic Association and the Journal of Surgical Orthopaedic Advances. He has served as principal investigator for several FDA studies on spine-related devices.
Prior to starting the Southeastern Spine Institute, Dr. Johnson was the medical director for the department of rehabilitative services at Bon-Secours-St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Charleston, S.C., from 1991 to 1996. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery as well as the Board of Spine Surgery.
He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina and was an orthopedic surgery resident there. Dr. Johnson then completed a spine surgery fellowship in three places: the South Texas Spinal Clinic in San Antonio, St. Mary's Spine Center in San Francisco and the University of Hong Kong.
