Spine Leader to Know: Dr. Stephen H. Hochschuler of Texas Back Institute

Stephen H. Hochschuler, M.D, is the co-founder of Texas Back Institute in Plano and is a past president of Spine Arthroplasty Society, now known as the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery. He is the managing director of the International Spine & Orthopedic Institute in Overland Park, Kan. He has served in the United States Air Force and won an Air Force Commendation Award.
Dr. Hochschuler subspecializes in spine surgery. His focuses include cervical disc replacement surgery, lumbar disc replacement surgery, spinal cord injury, cervical spine reconstruction, endoscopy and lumbar stenosis.   

"Despite significant challenges facing medicine in general, I am quite excited by potential downstream opportunities for spine," said Dr. Hochschuler in a Becker's Spine Review article. "There will be opportunities in telemedicine, physician extenders, integration of treatment, emphasis on prevention, application of nano and MEMS technology, development of biologic solutions, improvement in image guidance and robotics and more international integration."

Dr. Hochschuler earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
