Spine Specialist to Know: Dr. Frank Phillips of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush

Frank Phillips, MD, co-founded the Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush Minimally Invasive Spine Institute in Chicago, where he works with spine surgeons to treat a variety of spinal conditions. He specializes in the spine and has an interest in cervical and lumbar reconstructive surgery, with expertise in motion-preserving and minimally invasive spinal procedures. Dr. Frank Phillips of Midwest Orthopaedics at RushDr. Philips is a professor of orthopedic surgery at Rush University Medical Center.

Dr. Phillips was the principal investigator in various FDA clinical trials for cervical and lumbar disc replacement procedures. He has also participated in the development of a number of minimally invasive spinal techniques. His research interests include minimally invasive spinal surgery, cervical reconstruction and intervertebral disc biology and regeneration.

Prior to coming to Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, Dr. Phillips was the director of the Spine Center at The University of Chicago.

He received his medical degree from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his orthopedic residency at The University of Chicago Medical Center and completed a fellowship at Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Phillips is the founder, board member and past president of the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.
