The Future of Orthopedic Surgeon Employment: 3 Core Concepts
Increasingly, orthopedic surgeons coming out of school are joining hospitals rather than independent practices. At the same time, orthopedic practices are increasingly entering into co-management or joint venture agreements with hospitals to stay afloat. While it is impossible to tell exactly where most orthopedic surgeons will be practicing five years from now, there may be light at the end of the tunnel for physicians who want to remain in private practice.

Survey: Surgeons Predict Physician Fee Cut Will Make It Impossible to Continue to Treat Medicare Patients
A survey of nearly 14,000 surgeons and anesthesiologists, members of the nation's Surgical Coalition, showed that less than one-third of physician currently participating in Medicare would be able to continue under the 21.2 percent fee cut scheduled to go into effect on April 1, according to a news release from the American College of Surgeons and Operation Patient Access.

RAND Corp. Study Finds Insurers' Efforts to Send Patients to Lower-Cost Physicians Misleading
A study into physician cost profiling, commonly used to decide which physicians are included in health plan networks, found that around 25 percent of physicians would be misclassified under systems currently used by plans to encourage patients to receive care from physicians with lower medical costs, according to a news release from the RAND Corp.

Almost Nine Percent of Surgeons Concerned About Making 'Major' Errors
In a survey of surgeons commissioned by the American College of Surgeons, 8.9 percent of respondents said they were concerned they had made a "major medical error" in the past three months, according to an article on the survey in the Annals of Surgery.
