The Spine Journal Report: 80% of People Support Surgeon-Industry Relationships

A survey of 610 people in the general public found that most people feel disclosures of surgeon relationships with industry is important, but most said it wouldn't keep them from seeing their surgeon, according to a report published in The Spine Journal.

Around 80 percent of the respondents felt the surgeon-industry relationship was ethical and had either beneficial or no influence on the quality of healthcare. Most respondents noted the importance of disclosures and felt paying royalties to surgeons for devices other than those they implant had no impact on quality of care.

 

Additionally, most of the respondents would support surgeon-industry conflict of interest regulation, and trust physicians to head this effort along with professional societies.
