Samuel Bederman, MD, a spine surgeon from the University of California at Irvine's Orthopaedic Spine Center, is pioneering robot-guided surgeries on the cervical spine.
Earlier this year, he performed successful robotic surgeries on the cervical spine of two separate patients, and is believed to be the first surgeon in the United States to have used robotics to perform such a procedure.

Dr. Bederman was one of the first surgeons to use Mazor Robotics' technology for spine surgery. Mazor is a company that produces robotic products intended to help spine surgeons perform more precise procedures.
