Dr. Ken Pettine on Benefits of Outpatient Spine Surgery in ASCs

Ken Pettine, MD, of Rocky Mountain Associates in Orthopedic Medicine and co-owner of Loveland Surgery Center, both in Loveland, Colo., recently discussed the market for spine surgery in ambulatory surgery centers in an article for The Spine Movement, a publication of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery.
Dr. Pettine discussed the different procedures that can be performed on an outpatient basis and benefits of the ambulatory surgery center setting. According to Dr. Pettine, surgery centers have lower infection rates, shorter operating room turnover times and 60 percent cost savings.
