Scoliosis Research Society Honors Dr. Peter Newton's Research Featured

Peter Newton, MD, has received the 2012 Whitecloud Award for Best Science Paper from the Scoliosis Research Society.
Dr. Newton received the recognition for his paper "Three Dimensional Visualization of the Intervertebral Disc: The Effects of Growth Modulation." He practices at Children's Hospital and Health Center in San Diego and is a member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.

Dr. Newton earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center. His additional training includes a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas.

Leah Carreon, PhD, was the winner of the 2012 Whitecloud Award for Best Clinical Paper for her paper "Cost Effectiveness of Single-Level Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion Five Years After Surgery." She is clinical research director of the Norton Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Ky.
