The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services released the 2013 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule final rule last week, which includes a few updates for spine coding, according to a report from the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery.
One of the changes includes the new Category I CPT code 22586 for pre-sacral interbody fusion at L5-S1, which previously had Category III status. ISASS backed the move earlier this year and conducted a survey of its membership to collect data for CMS to establish procedure valuation.

The final valuation was consistent with the data ISASS collected.
