The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis has successfully grown Schwann cells from the nerve tissue of a subject's leg and transplanted them back into the subject's body, according to a Sun Sentinel report. The subject has gone beyond the critical postoperative period without experiencing any complications.
The project researchers plan to continue working, keeping in mind the goal to develop treatments for paralysis, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
