EOS Imaging received FDA device clearance.
The FDA granted 510(k) clearance to EOS Imaging for its updated sterEOS 3-D imaging software. The improved sterEOS provides a 3-D model of the spine and lower limbs for diagnosis and surgical planning.

Court granted MAKO permanent injunction against Blue Belt Technologies.
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based MAKO Surgical received a permanent injunction against Blue Belt Technologies following a lawsuit sparked by Blue Belt hiring a former MAKO sales manager as its vice president of sales.

InVivo approved to test spinal cord injury treatment.
InVivo Therapeutics Holdings had its investigational device exemption human trial approved by the FDA for a treatment of spinal cord injuries and neurotrauma conditions.
The 15-month study will test a biopolymer scaffold product, which was developed to treat patients with acute traumatic spinal cord injuries.

Legislation could exempt retirement-age physicians from EHRs.
A bill introduced to the House of Representatives would offer an electronic health record penalty exemption to near retirement-age physicians who fail to adopt systems. According to the legislation, introduced by Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.), solo practitioners would also get a three-year extension before penalties kick in and specialists would be given bonuses to promote meaningful use.

Aurora Spine adds physician to scientific advisory board.
Aurora Spine, based in Carlsbad, Calif., appointed Ian Armstrong, MD, medical director of the Southern California Spine Institute in Bakersfield, to its Scientific Advisory Board.

CMS, OIG may extend EHR safe harbors through 2016.
CMS and OIG published an advanced copy of proposed rules that, if enacted, would extend the existing Stark Law Exception and Anti-Kickback Statute Safe Harbor and make them applicable to the donation of electronic health records through 2016. CMS and OIG are accepting comments on the following proposed changes to the existing EHR Exception and Safe Harbor.
