ISASS Surgeons Present Study of Fusion as Back Pain Treatment Option

SpineFrank Phillips, MD, Paul Slosar, MD, Jim Youssef, MD, Frank Papatheofanis, MD, PhD, and Gunnar Andersson, MD, of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery have presented results of their study on fusion surgery as a treatment for chronic lower back pain. The study, presented during ISASS13, concluded that fusion was a viable option for the treatment of chronic lower back pain. "We found clinically significant improvement in pain scores and functional levels after fusion in randomized studies as well as in prospective observational studies," says Dr. Phillips.
