Domagoj Coric, MD, board member of the ISASS sister organization International Advocates for Spine Patients, has written a response to the recently released BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina's "Let's Talk Cost" statement. "Let's Talk Cost" addresses the rising and increasingly unsustainable healthcare costs and includes information labeling artificial discs as "ineffective." Dr. Coric argues the information presented is overly simplistic and lacks backing from credible medical sources.
Dr. Coric states that while insurance companies have the right to withhold coverage of medical devices, such as artificial discs, it is not acceptable to label such technologies as ineffective despite the medical evidence to the contrary.
