Vivekanand Palavali, MD, board-certified neurosurgeon with McLaren-Flint in Michigan, has received a Michigan Emmy nomination for the documentary "Bitter Pill: America and Healthcare in America – a Brain Surgeon's Dissection and Prescription."

 

Ira Abbott, MD, director of Surgical Neuro-Oncology at The Children's Hospital of Montiefiore in the Bronx, N.Y., received the Pioneer Award for Pediatric Surgical Neuro-Oncology from the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation. He received the award during the 2013 Dream & Promise Awards Benefit.

 

Steve Garfin, MD, the chief of spine surgery and department chair of orthopedic surgery at University of California San Diego, has received the 2013 ISSLS Wilste Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Nuvasive.

 

Alvin H. Crawford, MD, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Center for Closing the Health Gap in Greater Cincinnati. Dr. Crawford recently retired from the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

 

Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, MD, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hospital for Special Surgery during its 30th Annual Tribute Dinner. Dr. Boachie is the chief of scoliosis surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

 

Bruce Darden, MD, has been named Physician of the Year in 2013 by Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital. Dr. Darden is a spine surgeon with OrthoCarolina and serves as president-elect of the Cervical Spine Research Society.
